Find-A-Record.com

Find-A-Record is a family history research assistant tool that helps researchers fill in holes in their family trees. This resource is FamilySearch Certified and links with FamilySearch.org. Find-A-Record will navigate through your tree on FamilySearch and focus on five specific areas:

  • Finding family in your tree that are missing
  • Finding family relationships that are missing
  • Finding family in your tree that are not supported by sources
  • Finding contradictions and problems in your tree that need fixed
  • Finding family that are duplicates and that have information that needs cleaned up
If a researcher would like to focus solely on one area like adding sources to names that are not currently supported, Find-A-Record allows you to leave this search function checked and the user can then deselect the other searching tools.

In my opinion I feel like this is a very helpful resource for researchers of all levels. Beginners can use this tool for direction on what needs to be completed to build your tree. Researchers who are farther along with their tree and may feel like there is nothing else to do can use Find-A-Record to reveal new areas to continue on with their researching efforts.

This tool will not be helpful for anyone that does not have a free FamilySearch account. There is also a search function to fill in the gaps, but it will not present records to you. Instead Find-A-Record will merely direct you to websites that will help you find records to fill in your tree gaps.

Therefore, the main function of Find-A-Record is to serve as a gap finder. I recommend any interested to use this tool to strengthen your family tree by using the following link, Find-A-Record.
