Mother's Bread, Abbie Hyde Purser

Mix and let raise:
3/4 cup warm water
1 1/2 tbsp sugar
1 1/2 tbsp yeast

Mix well together:
6 cups flour
1 soup spoon salt

Add:
2 1/2 cups warm water
1/2 cup shortening

2 or 3 more cups of flour. Kneed until soft dough. Let raise twice until double in bulk. Cut into three pieces for loaves and let raise again. Bake at 350`. Makes three loaves.
