Lemon White Cake, Darlene Purser Bair

2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
4 eggs
1 tsp salt
6 tsp baking powder
4 cups flour
2 cups milk
1 tsp lemon
2 tsp vanilla

For spice cake leave out lemon and add:
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp allspice
