Bread & Butter Pickles, Darlene Purser Bair

12 to 15 medium cucumbers
6 medium onions
2 cups sugar
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp tumeric
2 cups vinegar
1 tsp cornstarch
1/2 tsp pepper
2 tsp dry mustard
2 tsp celery seed

Wash, peel and slice onions and cucumbers. Soak 2 hours in 1/2 cup salt in enough water to cover cucumbers. Stir salt to dissolve in water. Mix rest of ingredients and boil 1 minute. After cukes and onions are done soaking, add cukes and onions to vinegar and let heat through real good (about 20 minutes), but not boil. Just real hot. Bottle, and seal.
