Butterscotch Chip Cookies, Darlene Purser Bair

1/2 cup shortening
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 well beaten egg
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 small package butterscotch chips
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Cream together: shortening, vanilla, and sugars. Add egg and mix together. Add sifted dry ingredients. Stir in chips and nuts. Bake at 375` for 12 minutes. If recipe is doubled add 1 extra egg.
