5-6 cups all-purpose flour
3 tbsp sugar
2 tsp salt
2 pkg active dry yeast
2 cups water
1/4 cup oil or shortening
Grease two 8 x 4 or 9 x 5 loaf pans. In large bowl combine 2 cups flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Blend well. In saucepan heat water and oil until very warm (120` to 130` F). Add to flour mixture. Blend at low speed until moistened, then 3 minutes at medium speed. By hand stir in 2 1/2 to 3 cups flour until dough pulls away from sides of bowl. On floured surface, knead in 1/2 to 1 cup flour until dough is smooth and elastic. Place in greased bowl, cover loosely with plastic wrap and a cloth towel. Let raise until light and doubled in size (45-60 minutes). Punch down to remove air bubbles, divide in half and shape into loaves. Cover and let raise in pans 30-35 minutes. Bake at 375` for 40-45 minutes.
